Bowles becomes one of the million faces for arms trade treaty

Liberal Democrat MEP for Hampshire, Sharon Bowles has joined the "Million Faces Campaign". The campaign is run by Amnesty International, Oxfam and IANSA- the International Action Network on Small Arms.

The Million Faces campaign has been set up to run for 100 days. In those 100 days the campaign aims to collect one million photographs of people who want to see greater co-operation on International Arms Control, leading to a new Global Arms Trade Treaty.

At the end of the 100 days, there is a crucial UN summit on arms in New York, where the Million Faces campaign will lobby for this new treaty.

Sharon Bowles said "I have become one of the campaign's Million Faces, because I am appalled that the international community is tolerating this out of control trade."

"The arms trade needs to be properly regulated and is in desperate need of safeguards. At the moment, the arms trade is the cause of much of the human misery in the world, reinforcing poverty and encouraging human rights abuses."

"I hope that local residents will also consider joining the campaign and becoming one of the Million Faces - you don't need to be an MEP to join up!
