Lib Dems win in Farnborough

Sue Gadsby (centre) and the Farnborough Lib Dem team celebrate a stunning by-election win

The Liberal Democrats won the safest Conservative ward in Rushmoor Borough in a November by-election.

Rushmoor Council is based on Farnborough and Aldershot in the north of Hampshire.

The election was won with a 22% swing from the Tories, whose local leader is the other councillor in the ward.

The result was:

Sue Gadsby (Lib Dem) 573 (49%, up 24.9%),

Conservative 496 (42.5%, down 19.2%),

Labour 99 (8.5%, down 5.7%).
