Hampshire Liberal Democrats are taking the lead in promoting positive action to address environmental issues.

Lib Dem run Southampton City Council has won the National Green Apple Award for being the first council in the country to appoint a dedicated Climate Change Officer.

And this weekend, Hampshire Councillor Adam Carew will tell the Green Liberal Democrats of the urgent need to tackle climate change.

"The Government's Chief Scientific Officer has stated that global Warming is the greatest threat facing humankind and the threat wildlife biodiversity at home and abroad has never been greater."

Green Liberal Democrats are holding their annual conference in Oxford and you can find out more about it by clicking on the link below.

"This conference is about what Liberal Democrats could and should be doing, locally and nationally on environmental issues. We believe it is up us as Liberal Democrats to lead by example and our role as Green Liberal Democrats is to help show the way."

Note:

The Green Apple Awards are awarded annually, promoted by The Green Organisation with the support of the Environment Agency, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management, Municipal Journal and various other environment bodies. The aim of the award is to recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice around the world. The award is open to everyone in the three sectors of International, Commerce and Industry and Local Authority.
